Deep Sahara Day Expedition from Douz
Leave the town behind and head deep into the Sahara on a full-day 4x4 expedition from Douz to Tembaine, the twin flat-topped mountains rising from the heart of the Grand Erg Oriental. The drive is part of the adventure: roughly three hours each way across rolling dunes and open desert, with photo stops along the route. At Tembaine, explore the fossil plains and the old desert well, climb the dunes for wide views across the erg, and try sandboarding on the soft slopes. The route runs around the Jbil area, where desert wildlife is sometimes seen. This is a long, remote day for travellers who want the deep Sahara without an overnight stay.
