Johnston Canyon Winter Walk in Canmore and Banff
Discover a different side of the Canadian Rockies on a small-group guided canyon adventure from Banff and Canmore. Travel through spectacular mountain scenery before setting out on foot to explore one of the region’s most beautiful canyon landscapes. During the winter months, waterfalls transform into towering walls of ice, snow covers the forest, and frozen formations create an entirely different experience from the busy summer season. When Johnston Canyon is open and conditions allow, your guide will lead you along the canyon’s scenic walkways toward the Lower Falls and, depending on trail conditions and group ability, farther toward the Upper Falls. During seasonal closures, Johnston Canyon will be replaced by Marble Canyon, with additional stops at the Continental Divide and Paint Pots when conditions permit. Ice and snow conditions vary seasonally, and frozen waterfalls cannot be guaranteed in early autumn or spring.
