Grootbos Private Nature Reserve
A 3,500-hectare private nature reserve of fynbos and ancient milkwood forest between the mountains and Walker Bay, near Gansbaai and less than two hours' drive from Cape Town. Two lodges share it: Forest Lodge, 16 freestanding suites high on a hill for guests aged 12 and over, and Garden Lodge, 11 suites that welcome children of all ages, with two private villas that come with their own chef, butler and guide. Rates are full board and include guided activities: a 4x4 flower safari with a nature guide, fynbos and forest walks, horse riding, the Klipgat cave and a coastal drive with land-based whale watching in season.
