Heliconias Nature Inn and Hot Springs

A family-run rainforest lodge 17 km south of La Fortuna on Route 702, in the foothills of the Arenal Volcano. It began with a treehouse a carpenter grandfather built twenty feet up a mango tree, and now has treehouses and bungalows among rambutan and mango trees and forest. Hot springs fed by the mineral-rich underground rivers of the volcano fill six pools, natural spring swim holes lie in the forest, and trails run through the lodge's private reserve, where its own bilingual naturalist guides lead night walks for red-eyed tree frogs and sloths. Breakfast at Leonardos, the restaurant, comes with coffee grown on the lodge's own farm. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
