Termas de Papallacta
The hotel of the Termas de Papallacta hot-springs resort, at 3,250 metres in the Andean páramo on the Quito to Baeza road, about an hour from Quito and 45 minutes from its airport. Wooden rooms with underfloor heating, two-storey family cabins and the fireplace suites of the southern cabins each sit around thermal pools kept for the guests of that area, with the spa's pool circuit and the public balneario alongside. The resort owns the Rancho del Cañón, a protected area of about 200 hectares at the entrance to Cayambe-Coca National Park, with guided walks of one to eight hours through páramo, wetlands and high cloud forest where its own lists name Polylepis trees, the Andean condor, hummingbirds and the spectacled bear.
