Trout Point Lodge
An adults-only wilderness lodge in southwestern Nova Scotia, on a wooded estate where the Tusket and Napier rivers meet, bordering the Tobeatic Wilderness Area. It sits at the end of a three-mile gravel road near East Kemptville, about 45 minutes' drive from the Yarmouth ferry terminal and about three hours from Halifax's airport, and there is no cell phone coverage. The Main Lodge is a three-storey building of large spruce logs, granite and sandstone, with a Great Room, a mezzanine library, two dining rooms and two bars; it holds nine suites, and Beaver Hall, at a bend of the Tusket, holds four more, many with a stone fireplace or a wood stove. The lodge is certified as a Starlight hotel by the Starlight Foundation and lies within the Acadian Skies and Mi'kmaq Lands Starlight Tourist Destination: after dinner a guide leads guests to a stargazing platform in a riverside meadow, with the lodge's own telescopes. By day there are guided hikes on its trails and out to Billy's Hill in the Tobeatic, forest bathing, discovery walks for fungi, mosses, trees and birds, and kayaks, canoes and paddleboards on the river, then a wood-fired hot tub and a cedar barrel sauna on the riverbank. The lodge names black bear, deer, beaver, flying squirrels, turtles, grouse, loons, owls and eagles among what guests may see, and, with luck, moose. Dinner is a daily-changing Chef's Menu built on Atlantic seafood, local farms and the lodge's own gardens. Open from mid-May to early November. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
