Whichaway Camp

White Desert's original Antarctic camp, opened in 2005 in the Schirmacher Oasis of Queen Maud Land, where bare rock and more than a hundred freshwater lakes break through the ice. Six heated pods sit lightly on the rocks, each with an en-suite bathroom and shower and a glass conservatory looking out over the glacier, with a sauna and ice plunge, massages, and yoga and meditation in the dome. Guests fly about five and a half hours from Cape Town to a blue-ice runway and spend the days with the camp's guides: glacier treks, nunatak hikes, ice climbing, abseiling, the ice waves and the frozen lake. Stays are fixed, all-inclusive programmes flown from Cape Town. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
