Swim with Sperm Whales, Dominica

Swim with sperm whales off Dominica, one of the few places where it is possible, under a strict permitting system that limits pressure on the population. The operator holds several five day permits a year; groups are capped at six under the permit, the boat is chartered for the group alone, and days on the water run six hours or more. The local guide lives on the island year round and is a member of the Dominica Sperm Whale Project research team, collecting ID and acoustic data on these whales. False killer whales, pygmy orca, pilot whales, beaked whales and spinner, bottlenose and spotted dolphins are also commonly seen. Sightings are not guaranteed. No scuba certification is required. Included: six nights of accommodation with breakfast near Portsmouth on the northwest coast, airport transfers, the swim with whales permit, the vessel, captain and guide, lunch and non-alcoholic drinks on board, taxis to group dinners and digital photographs from the trip leaders. Not included: flights, dinners, gratuities and travel insurance, which is required. The operator offers a lower per session price for back to back sessions.

Booking is arranged by an affiliated travel advisor, not by Your Naturalist. Your Naturalist does not operate or sell this tour; prices shown are the operator's own published per-person rates, and deposits, payment schedules and cancellation terms are the operator's own. A request from this page reaches the travel advisor directly, who confirms the departure and rate with the operator and assists before and during travel.
