San Isidro Lodge

A cloud forest lodge at about 2,000 metres on the Amazonian slope of the Andes near the town of Cosanga, about two hours by paved road from Quito's international airport, inside a 2,000-hectare reserve that forms a forest corridor between Antisana and Sumaco national parks. Kilometres of marked trails lead from the lodge through primary forest, guests can paddle canoes along a forest stream, hummingbird feeders hang at the main porch, and the lodge's guides lead walks at dusk in search of night monkeys, owls and frogs. The lodge lists about 330 bird species for the reserve and its surroundings, and night monkeys, agoutis and tapirs are regularly seen right around the lodge. Rooms are set in separate cabins in a wild garden, each with a private bathroom with hot water, a sitting area and a private porch with a hammock, and two of them are fully accessible. Meals are served in the restored 1950s farmhouse that is now the dining room, from menus built on Amazonian and Andean products, and a heated pool with a fireplace sits between the rooms and the dining room. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
