Trogón Lodge
A mountain lodge at 2,200 metres in the Savegre Valley at San Gerardo de Dota, its 25 rooms spread in pairs through flower gardens beside the Savegre River, with the cloud forest rising above them. The Resplendent Quetzal lives in the valley all year, and the lodge runs a two-hour dawn Quetzal Quest with a local guide, a birding tour and a páramo walk on Cerro de la Muerte; two marked nature trails start at the gardens. Meals are served at El Quetzal restaurant, with trout from the lodge's own ponds and greens from its hydroponic farm, and there is a bar with a deck over the river, a lounge with a small library and a gift shop. Rooms are heated and have no TV or telephone, and Wi-Fi is in the public areas. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
