Echo Base

White Desert's glacier camp in Queen Maud Land, in the Drygalski Mountains near the Wolf's Fang blue-ice runway. The idea for it came from a conversation with the astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and it looks the part: smooth, gleaming pods on the ice with floor-to-ceiling one-way glass, each heated and with its own en-suite shower. Guided days on the glacier and the nunataks run from ice climbing, abseiling and rock climbing to fat biking, cross-country skiing, ice caves and a zipline, with a sauna and ice plunge, massages, and yoga in the dome back at camp. Stays are fixed, all-inclusive programmes flown from Cape Town. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
