Kenai Riverside Lodge

The operator's original log lodge and sixteen cabins on the banks of the turquoise Kenai River at Cooper Landing, at Milepost 50.1 on the Sterling Highway, about two hours' drive from Anchorage or one from Seward, beside Chugach National Forest and close to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The cabins are styled on Alaskan pioneer cabins, with heat, electric lights, a private bathroom, room for up to four and a porch with Adirondack chairs, and on purpose no TV, phone or internet. On the nine wooded acres there are also two timber-frame homes, Bear and Moose, and the two-bedroom Lynx Cottage, offered as upgrades on longer stays. Days are spent hiking mountain trails, floating the river's gentle Class I to II+ water watching for moose, bears and eagles, or fishing for salmon and trout with a guide at extra cost; in the evening there is the riverside deck with its fire pit, a wood-fired sauna, and a self-guided nature path with interpretive signs. Packages run from May to September with round-trip transport from Anchorage, meals and activities, or you can drive in yourself. Booked for you by an affiliated travel advisor.
