Tordrillo Mountain Lodge
A fly-in lodge on Judd Lake at the mouth of the Talachulitna River, sixty miles northwest of Anchorage in the Tordrillo Range, reached only by floatplane from Lake Hood in about forty minutes and worked by its own A-Star helicopters. Built for heli-skiing, it runs three seasons: winter heli-ski weeks from February to April, the June Kings and Corn month of corn-snow skiing in the morning and king salmon fishing at night, and a summer from July to September of heli-fishing for all five Pacific salmon, rainbow trout, char and grayling, heli-hiking onto glaciers, rafting the Talachulitna and Coal Creek, Alaska’s first via ferrata, and canoes, kayaks and paddleboards on the lake. Its Turbine Otter flies day trips to Lake Clark, Katmai and Denali national parks for bears, moose and Dall sheep, back to the lodge for dinner.
